It’s been a great week…but tough too.
Back in January we launched our I Can Draw Video Contest to crowdsource video content for Bayt.com. The idea was that we wanted video content for Bayt.com that would help our users better understand our role in the recruitment process so that they get the most out of Bayt.com. Also, a series of explanation videos will help the visual/auditory learner. With over 70,000 daily visitors to Bayt.com and 100’s of employers using our site each day we definitely have a diverse user group.
Because we had never done this before, we started the contest not knowing what we would get. What we did know is that we have a huge group of users from the creative fields so we spoke directly to them. We asked for their help. We needed their help so we could help our users in turn.
The response was as diverse as this group and the geographic spread of contributors – and now commenters – has been a great validation that our reach and the interest in the MENA Region is truly global. We narrowed the entrants down to a top-3 and asked once again for help. The response has wow-ed me! The quality of commenting has been impressive and very beneficial.
Over the past 2 weeks Mark, Sajeda and Wassim are now on a first-name basis with our staff, though they don’t know it. Our staff are always debating the work of Mark, asking about Wassim, referring to the images of Sajeda. These three people are deeply connected with our company and we thank them for that.
Now, we thought long and hard about how to move forward. We used the contest to get a concept, and not necessarily a polished final copy. Through that concept and through speaking to the finalists, we had to consider timelines, budgets, ideas, branding, professionalism, emotional connection, production quality, ability to collaborate and many other elements. The more I thought about it, the more difficult it became. Mark, Sajeda and Wassim all do great work in their own way!
In the end, the answer came from two sources: the people and my heart. The work of Wassim was the people’s choice – that is clear. Also, every time I watch his submission I feel a sense of empathy and an emotional connection. He is speaking to me and to other job seekers. He is empowering me to participate and speaking to my need to take action. His style is simple but the connection profound. Wassim’s work connects with people.
Wassim is our winner – but we feel like we won!
We will be working with Wassim over the next few weeks to move forward – and ultimately to add content to Bayt.com that helps our users. We’ll keep you posted here on our progress.
Mark and Sajeda along with Wassim have helped us, and this has been a great learning experience for us.
I want to commend all 3 of our finalists. They are talented, but they are also great people. If you would like to get in touch with any of the finalists to work with them, please send a note to my attention.
To everyone who helped us, quite simply…thank you!
